As part of HAT's Computer Literacy Program, three more schools in the Parish are the
proud recipients of computers as a teaching aid and learning tool. Two additional schools will receive one
computer each later this year as prize winners of the Essay Competition sponsored by the Rotary Club.
I'm especially grateful to Deirdre Tyndale (Wilson), a Rotary Club member, and Huntley Gracie who gave generously of their time and
resources to assist in clearing the shipment from Montego Bay and distributing the computers to the various
schools. I'm also grateful to Jermane Stewart for assisting in the post-shipment checkout of the computers, and for
volunteering to assist Deirdre in the maintennance of the computers and the training of the teaching staff
at the various schools. One additional computer with CD burning capability will remain in Deirdre's custody
to serve as a master backup for the systems currently deployed. It will contain backup copies of the entire
CD library in the event that any of the CDs get lost, damaged, or stolen.
Special thanks to FOTA for providing six monitors from a previous shipment to complement the six CPUs that
were shipped.
I would also like to thank the principals, teaching staff, and all the students at the Martha Brae Basic,
Deeside Basic, and Falmouth Gardens Basic for the warm reception they gave me.
Software/CD Library:
The three basic schools and "Pond School" will share among themselves the educational CDs from the Pond School
library, plus any additional CDs/software they might acquire.
There are now ten (10) CDs in the Pond School library,
covering the following: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Reading, Phonetics, four famous books by
Dr. Seuss, titled "ABC", "Green Eggs And Ham", "The Cat In The Hat", and "Kindergarten" and
"Let's make a WORD" by Sesame Street.
Now that you know what is in the Pond School CD library, please feel free to send them a CD that they (teacher or student) might find useful.
