A Trip Report - (Part A)
- For January 2004

Pond School

Mrs. Lilis James (Principal) stands just outside her school building.

The Principal in her office.

Mrs. James shows off the library, where she would like to have some computers.

The school library and future home of the computers to be donated by HAT.

The Principal laments about the needs of the school and "security" issues.

Then she smiles...

....and continues to lament.

Site of a previous break-in into the Principal's office and library area.

Burglar bars installed to make the office more secure.

Burglar bars installed to make the library more secure.

Richard Chambers listens as Mrs. James outlines her "wish-list" for the kitchen.

A working freezer would be a great addition.

These freezers have clearly seen better days.

A working stove would also help to provide hot meals for the students.

The four-burner and oven...for baking cakes and pudding I suppose.

Yes, school was in session when we dropped by (un-announced of course).

Of course, some of kids would rather pay attention to ME instead of the teacher.

A little girl in pink gets one-on-one instruction from her teacher.

Again, a young man in red is caught "gazing"...

...and another one.

The Principal heads back to her class...

..while a young girl washes her hands...

...and young boy heads for the bathroom.

Outside, you could see that the schoolyard could use a few trash cans

Perimeter fencing vandalized...need repairs.

...another hole in the fence.

My visits were informal and impromptu, so not everyone could accomodate me when I showed up at their door. However, I was able to visit and gather sufficient research material on the Falmouth Infant School, the Falmouth All-Age School, the Trelawny Parish Library, The Falmouth Hospital, and the Trelawny Infirmary.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Principal, Mrs. Lilis James for taking a few minutes out of her busy day to speak with me. Also, many thanks to Richard Chambers, who accompanied me on some of my visits and assisted with some of the photographs.

Sincerely,
